The consulting engineering firm of Jenkins and Charland, Inc. was
established in January 1967. The firm was previously in existence
under the name "John R. Jenkins, P.E., Consulting Engineer," initially
founded December 1965 in Fort Lauderdale. The partnership and its
subsequent incorporation was adopted to meet rapidly expanding service
requirements. As our client base expanded throughout Florida, offices
were added in Fort Myers, Fort Pierce, Tampa, Jacksonville, Sarasota,
Florida and Atlanta.
The firm has consistently been staffed by highly qualified engineers and technical personnel with design capabilities that are enhanced by the use of the latest technologies, computers, and CAD.
Jenkins and Charland provides complete, conscientious engineering services based on thorough investigation, analysis, design, economic consideration and functional requirements. We pride ourselves in our continuing efforts to maintain close client coordination throughout the life of the project and beyond.
Although our office are mainly in the southeast, many projects
have been successfully completed outside this area. Capabilities
exist to efficiently render services to clients throughout the United
States, the Bahamas, the Caribbean and Latin America, with engineers
registered in 46 continental states, as well as selected foreign
countries.
As professional engineers, the firm endorses and follows the highest ethical standards of professional engineering principles and is proud of the professional relationships we have maintained with the clients who have engaged our services.
Close client contact with the highest levels of integrity and professional engineering standards have earned Jenkins and Charland a solid reputation as one of Florida's most respected engineering organizations.
Each job receives a thorough investigation and accurate analysis and design backed by economic considerations and functional requirements.
Our attention to detail is appreciated not only by the architects who initially select us but also by the contractors whose hands-on involvement and constant praise of our work is proof of our concern for cost effective and efficient construction methods.
Over three decades of experience with widely diversified clients have provided us with the unique capabilities to provide complete structural engineering services… from bridges to hotels to commercial structures.

CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE |
It's hard to believe that it has been over 38 years ago that
Jerry Jenkins and I teamed together in Ft. Lauderdale to establish
Jenkins & Charland, Inc. Our company has grown steadily during
the years from our original three employees to the present organization
of more than 70 employees in Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, Ft.
Pierce, Sarasota, Tampa, Jacksonville and Atlanta.
Our growth has been possible through satisfied clients - and client service begins with our commitment to our staff. We understand that we have been successful in the past and will continue to be in the future, not because of the efforts or reputation of one individual, but because of a team of highly skilled and motivated employees. And every team needs a leader - whether a captain, chief, coach or CEO.
My obligation as Chairman of Jenkins & Charland is to create
excellence at each level of the firm and on every project.
Additionally, I strive to provide an atmosphere in the company
where each individual can grow, as well as find satisfaction
as a contributing member of the Jenkins & Charland team.
This is an ongoing obligation - and one that requires energy,
motivation and commitment. Over the past few years, I have
had the opportunity to work with a young man who possesses
these exact qualities. Derek Wassink, P.E. joined Jenkins
& Charland as Vice President and Managing Principal of our
Ft. Lauderdale office, and was promoted to Executive Vice
President and Chief Operating Officer. Now, it is my great
pleasure to announce that Derek will become the firm's Chief
Executive Officer. I will continue as Special Advisor to the
Board, while entering into a new and exciting technical, business
development and management role within the company.
Derek graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a Major in Architectural Engineering from Princeton University, and received his Master of Civil Engineering with a Major in Structural Engineering from Villanova University. He combines a diverse talent for excellent engineering skills, a hands-on management style and exceptional client and business development skills. Derek has demonstrated his commitment to the firm, his willingness to take risks to assist us in meeting our objectives, and his intense desire to provide strong leadership as Jenkins & Charland takes the next step in its continued growth and advancement in the field of consulting engineering.
Everything about business is people. As Henry Ford said, "Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."
